Matter - Light - Reflection
After many years as a visual arts teacher, teaching drawing and textile working methods, I started to focus on making paintings. I prefer to paint non-figuratively and my work is characterized by tight, clear and powerful forms.
I call these paintings ‘Reflections’, because I try to achieve as much color reflection and color differences as possible by means of light effects. The play of light and reflections produces a kaleidoscope of strong contrasts and colours full of energy and dramatic expression.
My paintings are based on a display of materials arranged by me. For this I make a composition with a wide variety of shiny textile and industrial residual and waste materials. Consequently sustainability plays a major role in my paintings.
I find the influence of light and the surprising effect of gloss and reflection on structured materials with the accompanying shadows extremely fascinating and reproducing these effects as detailed and realistic as possible on the canvas is the biggest challenge for me. You could speak of a realistic representation of an unrealistic subject.
I make these paintings with acrylic paint and usually in large format.
